The Antwerp painter Eugeen Van Mieghem (1875-1930) grew up in the old port, where his parents had a pub opposite the Red Star Line warehouses. His paintings and drawings are a haunting testimonial of the port activities. They also feature the thousands of migrants who departed from here to America.
