2014 European Sites of Conscience Meeting: Building Inclusive Societies through Oral History and Storytelling
What do our stories teach us about ourselves? How does preserving the histories of different men, women and children help us to connect across borders? How can individual stories contribute to breaking down racist stereotypes and changing xenophobic attitudes in Europe today?
The International Coalition of Sites of Conscience and the Red Star Line Museum are pleased to announce the 2014 European Sites of Conscience annual meeting, from February 17th to 19th in Antwerp, Belgium. During the 2014 meeting, twenty to twenty-five European Sites of Conscience and experts in the field of museology, storytelling and oral history will come together to discuss how through the collection, preservation and dissemination of oral stories, Sites of Conscience can become agents of social inclusion, common understanding and civic engagement in Europe today.
The meeting will culminate in the launching of the digital joint- exhibit, “Images of Europe,” a project of the European Sites of Conscience Network, and available on the Coalition’s web site as of February 17th, 2014.
The 2014 European Sites of Conscience meeting takes place under the umbrella of the European Sites of Conscience Network, which brings together 31 historic museums and civil society organizations in 17 countries working together to foster tolerance and combat racism and xenophobia by sharing and exploring lessons from the past.
