Carl Kay

In December 1930, Carl Kay travelled by train from Kansas City to the port of New York. He was a musician who played bass in Fischer’s Exposition Orchestra.

He and his band livened up the passengers’ evenings on board the Belgenland during the world cruise of 1930-1931. His journey of discovery began in New York before he embarked, where he explored the Lower East Side and Chinatown, finding a world that was very different from Kansas City.
