Via Antwerp - Migrants' stories

Interactive tour in a group, suitable for pupils aged 16 and up. Through the migrants' stories, you experience their journey as if you were there yourself.

How and when to get here

When is the museum open and how do you get here?

Historical and contemporary

The original buildings of the shipping company were carefully restored. The new tower reflects the experiences of the former travellers, who looked out over Antwerp from the towering ocean steamers.

The Red Star Line buildings

The historic harbour sheds are silent witnesses to the story of the millions of Red Star Line passengers. We consider them part of our collection.

Permanent exhibition

In the permanent exhibition you also find stories about the arrival on Ellis Island. The scenography shows objects and testimonies filmed in America.

Highlights

The collection contains historical testimonies and documents, but also contemporary stories about migration. And works by Antwerp artists for whom migration was an inspiring theme.

Stories of emigrants

Millions of passengers travelled with the Red Star Line and told stories about their journeys to their children and grandchildren.
