A museum can’t collect stories on its own. Our team went around the city with our Story Bus and a whole lot of collaborators and volunteers in search of stories about newcomers’ first five years in Antwerp. We invited everyone to share their memories on a specially designed city map. ‘Safe Harbour’ is a language training programme too: engaging newcomers creatively and getting them to tell their own stories is an informal way of encouraging them to practise their Dutch. We’re collecting the stories in a publication and in the ‘Safe Harbour’ exhibition.
