In the Footsteps of the Moël Family

Want to experience the Red Star Line Museum in a different way? Already familiar with our permanent exhibition? This guided tour offers a fresh perspective by focusing on the story of the Moël family.

One of the biggest obstacles on the journey to the ‘promised land’ of America was trachoma, a contagious eye disease. If trachoma was detected during the medical inspection, immigrants were mercilessly sent back. This happened not once, but twice to young Ita Moël.

Together with a guide, you’ll dive into personal stories, photos, and objects to discover the Moël family’s migration story — one of resilience, patience, waiting, and trust — told powerfully in every part of the museum.
